Ocala man dies after tumbling 180 feet in motorcycle crash, FHP says

Troopers ID victim as Mark Hanson

OCALA, Fla. – A 53-year-old Ocala man died late Monday after tumbling nearly 200 feet in a motorcycle crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The FHP said Mark Hanson died in the crash, which was reported at 11:33 p.m. on State Road 40, east of North Florida Road 13.

Troopers said Hanson was driving a 2008 Harley-Davidson Sportster west on S.R. 40 when he locked his rear brake for an unknown reason and laid the bike down.

Hanson fell off the bike and "tumbled over 180 feet," the FHP said. The bike slid for more than 360 feet, troopers said.

Hanson, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.
