Closures in place this weekend for I-4 construction

ORLANDO, Fla. – If you have late night travel plans this weekend along Interstate 4 or through downtown Orlando, be aware of some major changes going into effect.

This upcoming weekend is scheduled to be a very active one for the I-4 Ultimate Project.

"Starting Friday night, around 8 o' clock Friday night, we'll have closures of Kaley Avenue. It's a full closure just West of I-4, so the ramps will still stay open through the Kaley interchange. You will not be able to pass from one side of I-4 to the other," I-4 Ultimate Project public information officer David Parks said.

Kaley Avenue will remain closed through the weekend until early Monday, pre-commute time and it will be in place over the next four weekends. A detour will be marked and will bring traffic over to Michigan Street.

That's not the only Big Drive closure this weekend.

"We have a complete closure of I-4 starting on Sunday night into early Monday morning that closes all of the Westbound lanes between State Road 50 and Gore Street," Parks said.

I-4 West will be blocked for at least four hours starting around midnight Sunday and is scheduled to clear by 5 a.m. Monday. The detour from those Westbound lanes will be clearly marked.

"So all Westbound I-4 traffic will be diverted off of Westbound I-4 at Colonial, they'll be taken over to Orange Blossom Trail South on OBT to get over to I-4. That will start after midnight," Parks said.

There will also be closures of the Colonial Drive, Amelia Street and South Street ramps starting at 10 p.m. Sunday through early Monday morning. All work is scheduled to cleared before commute time on Monday.

Work in and around downtown is ramping up in this phase of the Big Drive. That's one of this big hot spots at this point, and it will remain that way for the immediate future.

As always, News Six will continue to keep you up to date.
