NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – A multi-vehicle crash in Nassau County late Monday killed one person, injured 13 others and kept the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 closed for eight hours.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, traffic had backed up on I-95 due to a previous accident about 10:45 p.m. when a tractor-trailer failed to stop and drove into the stopped vehicles. A total of 22 vehicles were involved in the crash.
All southbound lanes of I-95 near State Road 200 were shut down because of the crash. According to FHP, traffic was rerouted to U.S. 17.
Lanes reopened around 7 a.m.
Troopers are investigating the crash. A preliminary report, including the names of the person killed and the driver who drove into the stopped traffic, should be available later Monday.
