Marion County man crashes SUV into trees, dies

FHP identifies victim as Rodney Booth

FORT McCOY, Fla. – A Marion County man was killed Monday after crashing his SUV into some trees, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Rodney Edward Booth, 48, of Fort McCoy, died in the wreck, which was reported at 5:30 p.m. on NE 170 Avenue Road.

The FHP said Booth was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee south when he veered off the shoulder for an unknown reason. The Jeep crashed into several trees and overturned, ejecting Booth from the SUV, troopers said.

Booth was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

Booth was not wearing a seat belt, according to troopers.

It's not known if alcohol played a role in the crash, officials said.
