Washout creates crater near Melbourne mall

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A washout during Hurricane Irma created a crater in Melbourne, taking a large chunk of road with it.

An entrance to Melbourne Square Mall at Gateway Drive and Hibiscus Boulevard was washed away, officials said.

Melbourne Square officials said Tuesday that repairs are underway.

During construction, guests can enter Melbourne Square via one of its other six entrances.

No other details have been released.
