Embry-Riddle student, 21, killed in Volusia motorcycle crash

Colton Butterfield was traveling at high rate of speed, officials say

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. – A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed early Friday in Daytona Beach Shores, officials said.

Authorities said Colton Butterfield died in the crash, which was reported at 2 a.m. on South Atlantic Avenue at Oceans West Boulevard.

Authorities said Butterfield was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve. The bike left the road, ejecting him, officials said.

First responders tried to revive Butterfield , who was pronounced dead, officials said. 

Butterfield was a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and enlisted in the U. S. Army.
