Driver killed after crashing into New Smyrna Beach house, FHP says

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A 57-year-old man was killed early Monday after crashing his pickup truck through a fence and into a New Smyrna Beach house, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Walter Sumner, of Edgewater died in the wreck, which was reported at 3:30 a.m. along South Glencoe Road near South Taylor Road.

The FHP said Sumner was driving a 2002 Ford pickup north on Glencoe Road when he lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason.

The pickup struck a fence, went through a yard and struck the home, troopers said. No one inside the house was injured, the FHP said.

Sumner was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
