FHP: Car crashes into Orange County home, injuring woman in kitchen
67-year-old taken to ORMC with serious injuries, troopers say
ORLANDO, Fla. – A 67-year-old woman sitting in her kitchen was injured Tuesday morning when a car crashed into an Orange County home, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash was reported before 9 a.m. at 7381 High Lake Drive, between North Apopka Vineland Road and North Hiawassee Road near Lake Gem Elementary School.
The FHP said Pearlie Searles, 61, of Orlando, was driving a 2008 Hyundai on High Lake Drive when she failed to negotiate a curve and crashed into the house.
A woman sitting at the kitchen table was struck by the car and pinned until first responders arrived, troopers said. She was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, troopers said.
The driver, who was trapped in her car, was taken to ORMC with minor injuries, the FHP said.
Troopers said Searles was ticketed for careless driving and has been recommended for driver re-evaluation.
