Pedestrian struck, killed on US 1 in Cocoa, FHP says

Troopers investigate fatal crash near Fairview Avenue

COCOA, Fla. – A 46-year-old Cocoa man was struck and killed early Thursday while walking along U.S. 1 in Brevard County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal crash was reported at 12:54 a.m. on U.S. 1 at Fairview Avenue in Cocoa.

The FHP said the man, whose name has not been released, was walking north in the outside northbound lane of U.S. 1 when a 2011 Nissan SUV driven by a 44-year-old Titusville man traveling in the same direction struck him.

The victim died at the scene, the FHP said.

The driver, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured, troopers said. Alcohol did not play a role in the crash, according to the FHP.

The crash is under investigation.
