Pickup hits, kills pedestrian in Deltona, deputies say
Victim ID'd as Shawn A. Marcellus, 27, of Deltona
DELTONA, Fla. – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck Thursday morning in Volusia County, deputies said.
Deputies said Shawn A. Marcellus, 27, of Deltona, died in the crash, which was reported at Howland and Elkcam boulevards in Deltona.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said a 34-year-old Chuluota woman was driving a white Dodge pickup north on Howland Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. when Marcellus stepped in front of the truck in a non-crosswalk area.
Marcellus was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.
The pickup driver stayed at the scene and called authorities, deputies said.
There were no signs of impairment and speed was not a factor, so the driver won't likely be charged, deputies said.
