OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities are investigating a crash Thursday involving a golf cart in Osceola County that left a St. Cloud man dead, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said one other vehicle was involved in the crash, which took place around 11:05 a.m. at the intersection of Narcoossee and Thompkins roads.

Gary Johnson, 63, was driving the golf cart east on Thompkins Drive when he attempted to cross Narcoossee Road and traveled into the direct path of a four-door Kia driven by 20-year-old Ashley Martinez, according to the crash report.

The golf cart passenger, 56-year-old Michael Patrick, was ejected and suffered critical injuries, troopers said. Martinez was not injured and Johnson suffered minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Editor's note: The Florida Highway Patrol originally told News 6 that the injured victim died at the hospital, but troopers later reported that hospital officials said the patient was critical. Troopers again reported Friday that the man had died as a result of his injuries.
