Pedestrian hit, killed while walking with brother in Orange County

Witnesses say black Mustang struck man

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 57-year-old Orlando man was struck and killed by a Ford Mustang as he crossed a street Tuesday night with his brother, who was also injured, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Roberto Matamoros died in the crash, which was reported at 11:34 p.m. on East Colonial Drive at Cricket Club Circle.

The FHP said a 25-year-old Orlando man was driving his Mustang east and had a green light when he struck the pedestrians, who were in a crosswalk, but did not have the right of way.

Matamoros' 67-year-old brother told News 6 that they had had just left a Chili's restaurant when the car hit them.

Matamoros died at the scene and his brother suffered minor injuries, the FHP said.

Troopers blocked the entrance of the River Beach Cricket Club Apartments for hours as they investigated the crash. Many residents were forced to park across the street and walk to their homes.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
