Heads up if you're driving on I-4 in Orlando: 3 exits merge into 1

Move part of I-4 Ultimate construction project

ORLANDO, Fla. – A new shift in traffic from the I-4 Ultimate project means drivers are seeing three exits combined into one near downtown Orlando.

On Tuesday morning, the eastbound Interstate 4 exits for Princeton Street, Par Street and Fairbanks Avenue were moved to a temporary ramp located just north of the Colonial Drive (State Road 50) interchange.

The shift means drivers who wish to exit to either Par Street or Fairbanks Avenue will need to exit nearly 1.5 miles sooner.

"This really impacts a lot of drivers who use those three exits in College Park and Winter Park," I-4 Ultimate spokesman David Parks said.  "Be in that right hand lane as you cross over State Road 50.  Be ready to access that exit ramp that will serve as Princeton, Par and Fairbanks."

According to transportation officials, the shift is necessary to allow for construction work on the I-4 Ultimate Project.

For drivers who miss the new temporary ramp, the next exit is nearly three miles away at Lee Road.

"The most important thing is don't stop on I-4.  If you miss this turn, make note of it and be prepared for the next time,"  Parks said.

As part of the shift, a new eastbound I-4 entrance ramp from Ivanhoe Boulevard opened to traffic.

The Florida Department of Transportation said the changes will also create more room to accommodate future traffic shifts.
