St. Cloud man killed in crash with big rig

Fatal crash reported on Orange Blossom Trail near Kissimmee

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 50-year-old St. Cloud man was killed in a crash with big rig Tuesday morning in Osceola County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal wreck was reported at 5:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Orange Blossom Trail near Evergreen Street, southwest of Kissimmee.

Troopers said the man, identified Thursday as Jimmy Plate, was driving a 2003 Ford SUV and failed to slow down, crashing into the back of the tractor-trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

The big rig driver, 34-year-old Richard Blanco, was not hurt, the FHP said.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, according to the FHP.
