‘Ground depression’ closes Orange Avenue exit ramp from SR-408 in Orlando

Mills Avenue and Orange Blossom Trail can be used as alternate routes

ORLANDO, Fla. – A “ground depression” forced authorities to close a major exit ramp in Orlando, officials said.

The Orange Avenue exit ramp (10B) off State Road 408 was closed Wednesday morning because of the depression. One lane of the ramp was reopened around 11:30 a.m.

Officials said the depression into Lake Lucerne is affecting the bottom of the exit ramp.

“The right lane remains closed as the investigation and repair work continues,” the Florida Department of Transportation tweeted.

A witness said he saw a tree and a light pole get swallowed by the hole.

“All that sound I heard of what I thought was a wreck or something, must have been the Earth falling in and spitting the sand up and across the street,” Daniel Zuchelli said.
