ORLANDO, Fla. – Traveling during the holidays is never an easy task, and between all the planning and event preparation, many forget they're driving a several-thousand-pound vehicle.
James, of Lake Mary, a News 6 viewer, asked Traffic Safety Expert Steve Montiero, "When is a good time to travel during the holidays?"
Montiero said James asked a loaded question.
"I am able to offer my opinion based off what I have seen in the past on our Florida roads," Montiero said. "Are you off the days before the holiday? If so, never leave the day before if you're actually trying to avoid the traffic. Everyone has tasks they want to complete and usually tend to plan up to the very last minute, including leaving the day before holiday."
Montiero said motorists wanting open roads should travel when others don't want to drive.
"If you feel comfortable as a night driver, that's always good way to get around it," he said. "Late night or early morning is always a good way to get around most of the frustration."
Pack your patience and your favorite casserole and be safe this holiday season, Montiero added.
