Road closures expected in I-4 Ultimate project

Closure starting Friday night at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday

MAITLAND, Fla. – Drivers who frequent Maitland Boulevard are by now well acquainted with the frequent changes that come with the Big Drive. This week has been no exception and there are even more closures and detours coming up this weekend.

“Right now drivers are experiencing nightly closures at Keller Road. And these are happening nightly as we are receiving girder deliveries as preparing for a bigger closure this weekend,"Jessica Ottaviano, public information specialist, Florida Department of Transportation, said.

All week these closures have been in place from 8 at night until 6 the following morning. But that has all been prep work for a larger project this weekend.

“The bigger closure happening this weekend will be a continuous closure starting Friday night at 8 p.m. and won't open back up until 6 a.m. on Monday," Ottaviano said.

The weekend closure will allow those girders to be set, which is a key step in the construction of the new Keller Road bridge.

So here is how the closure will affect you.

“Drivers that travel on Westbound Maitland Boulevard will not be able to go North on Keller Road, but you will be able to go South on Keller Road," Ottaviano said.

Traffic will be able to get through the Maitland Boulevard interchange in both directions through the weekend, but access to Northbound Keller Road will be blocked for the installation project. Here's how that might impact you.

“You have the RDV that's there and you have drivers that are trying to access all the office buildings and stuff that's further back near Maitland Summit that may use Keller as a cut through so it's important for them to know that these will be closed throughout the weekend," Ottaviano said.

Detours will point you towards Maitland Summit Road and from there, detour you around to access Keller. As always allow extra time.
