Driver dies after SUV crashes into Orlando building, bursts into flames

Victim identified as Carlos Camacho

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 45-year-old Orlando man was killed when an SUV crashed into a building and burst into flames Sunday night on an Orange County street, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Carlos Camacho died in the crash, which was reported at 9:15 p.m. on Chancellor Drive near Oak Ridge Road.

According to the FHP, Camacho was driving a 2007 Honda SUV at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a curve and went through a hedge.

The SUV struck a curb, went airborne and traveled over a retention pond, troopers said. The vehicle then struck the edge of an embankment and the roof of the vehicle struck the building, the FHP said.

The SUV caught fire, and witnesses extinguished the blaze, the FHP said.

"He jumped straight over the (canal), and the four tires actually hit the wall and (the car) fell," a witness said. "The whole car was crushed."

Camacho was pronounced dead at the scene.
