Victim slams into pole at rest area, troopers say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a deadly crash on I-95 in Brevard County.

The FHP said Gustavo Hamui, 53, of Pembroke Pines, died in the crash, which was reported at 9:55 p.m. Monday on I-95 south at the rest area near mile marker 169, south of Malabar Road.

Troopers told News 6 that Hamui, who was driving a 2009 Mercedes, entered the rest area and slammed into a pole for an unknown reason.

He was taken to Holmes Regional Hospital but did not survive, troopers said.

The FHP said it's not yet known if alcohol played a role in the crash.
