FHP: Woman dies after crash with truck hauling fertilizer

Vehicles enter curve from opposite directions, troopers say

LEESBURG, Fla. – A woman has died after a crash that happened early Wednesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Annette Rice, 87, of Leesburg, was driving east on County Road 48 when a man, 70, of Orlando, was driving east on County Road 48 in a truck that was hauling fertilizer, troopers said.

The Highway Patrol said the drivers came around a curve from opposite directions when Rice's car crossed the double yellow line and hit the front of the truck.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Rice was transported to Waterman Hospital for her injuries, troopers said. The Highway Patrol announced Rice's death Friday afternoon.

The crash remains under investigation.
