Woman, 38, killed in wrong-way crash on Colonial Drive in Orange County

Orlando man suffers minor injuries in head-on wreck

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 38-year-old Florida woman was killed Thursday night in wrong-way, head-on crash in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers identified the woman as Alejandra Gomez Matta, of Lake Wales.

The fatal crash was reported at 9:50 a.m. on Colonial Drive near Masood Lane.

The FHP said Matta, for an unknown reason, was driving a 2009 Acura west in the eastbound lanes of Colonial Drive.

Matta's car struck a 2003 Ford SUV head-on, and Matta died in the crash, troopers said.

The FHP said the SUV driver, a 52-year-old Orlando man, suffered minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Westbound lanes of Colonial Drive were shut down near South Tanner Road but later reopened.

Meanwhile, an Orange County deputy conducting traffic patrol nearby was injured when a Lexus crashed into his cruiser, officials said.

The deputy was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Lexus was cited for careless driving.
