Tropical Storm Karl forms in the Atlantic

Maximum sustained winds increase to near 45 mph

ORLANDO, Fla. – Tropical Storm Karl formed in the Atlantic Thursday night, the National Hurricane Center said.

The storm was 575 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and was heading west at 14 mph.

Maximum sustained winds increased to near 45 mph with higher gusts. Forecasters said little change in strength was forecast during the next 48 hours.
