Nicole upgrated to Category 2 hurricane in the Atlantic

And then there were two.

The storm system Nicole gained enough speed to become a Category 2 hurricane as of 11 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Nicole is nearly stationary but is expected to turn north-northwest later today.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 105 mph with some higher gusts. Nicole is expected to strengthen over the next few days and then loose steam.

There are no coastal watches or warnings because of Nicole, but most of Florida is preparing for Category 4 Hurricane Matthew, beating down on the East Coast Thursday.
