Some Oak Hill residents still in the dark after Hurricane Matthew

Lights on for half a street, other half remains in dark

OAK HILL, Fla. – Some residents in Oak Hill are still without power almost a week after Hurricane Matthew brushed by Central Florida. There is one street in town that has a unique situation because half the neighbors have power and half do not.

"We were lucky enough to get power turned on," said Ken Gelinskey.

Ken Gelinskey and his family live on Ward Drive and lost power Thursday morning.

"It was like camping, but not camping," he said.

Gelinskey got his lights turned on yesterday, and is now tackling the project of rebuilding his home. However, he feels bad for the neighbors across the street.

"It's bittersweet. If you haven't had power yet, that means you have an extreme problem and it's just taking longer than everybody else's," he said.

Resident Crestina Fulbright lives on the side of the street still without power.

"It's very frustrating," said Crestina Fulbright.

"You see people all around you with power, and here you are, stuck with nothing, you know," she said.

Fulbright says she's been without electricity since Thursday.

"You can't even wash your hands, you can't even go to the bathroom, you can't get any food, or anything," she said.

News 6 saw power crews working on Ward Drive, and residents said they were promised to be back on the grid no later than Wednesday evening.

"All you can do is pray that it gets turned on," said Fulbright.
