ORLANDO, Fla. - The upcoming hurricane season might be a little slower than normal.

According to scientists at Colorado State University, the number of named storms and hurricanes is expected to be below average this year.

A total of 11 named storms are expected this year, with four becoming hurricanes and two reaching the status of at least a Category 3 storm.

That number is below the 70-year average of 12 named storms a year with seven hurricanes.

Hurricane season officially begins on June 1.
