ORLANDO, Fla. – It's going to be a rainy Father's Day in Central Florida.
Temperatures will reach a high of 91 degrees. The day will begin with sunshine and off and on cloud cover. By 1 p.m., clouds will start to build and by 3 p.m., scattered showers will start to push into Seminole and Osceola counties. They will continue to push west, like they did Saturday, into Lake, Sumter and Marion counties by 7 p.m. There is a 70 percent coverage of rain and strong thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.
By 10 p.m., things will dry out and Central Florida will be left with a cloudy sky and a low of 75 degrees.
"It's not a bad day to take dad to the beach," Evans said. "The high will be 87 in Daytona with the water temperature at 75. The seas are only 2-3 feet and there is a slight rip current risk."
The weather will be similar throughout this week. Temperatures will stay in the mid- to high 80s with rain chances in the forecast every day.
Pinpointing the Tropics
"A tropical wave that is just south of the Wayward Islands now has a 50 percent chance of tropical development in the next five days," News 6 meteorologist Madeline Evans said. "Most likely early next week it will start to weaken as it goes through some unfavorable conditions."
The area of low pressure that is located in the northwestern Caribbean sea is continuing to strengthen and now has a 90 percent chance of tropical development. It will most likely be upgraded to a sub tropical or tropical storm by Sunday night or early next week. It's still too early for models, but so far most have shown it staying just west of Florida.
