Hot, humid, stormy day set for Central Florida; 2 systems swirl in tropics

Orlando to see high of 93 degrees

ORLANDO, Fla. – Pop-up storms will be more widespread on Monday across Central Florida than the area saw over the weekend.

"You guessed it: More humid air is rolling in the Central Florida," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said. "The humid air will lead to more afternoon storms."

Expect a 60 percent chance of showers and storms in the Orlando area.

"Some of the storms will be strong," Bridges said. "You know the drill. The main threat will be strong winds, lightning and heavy rain.

Rain chances stay at 60 percent through Wednesday before dipping to 50 percent on Thursday through Sunday.

Orlando will see a high of 93, one degree above the average high on this date.

"We officially got zero rain on Sunday, and our rain deficit is now at 11. 07 inches since January 1," Bridges said.

Tracking the tropics

"We are pinpointing two areas of low pressure," Bridges said.

One is called invest 95L and it has a 50 percent chance of development over the next two days.

Models take it through the Lesser Antilles and south of the Yucatan Peninsula over the next 10 days.

"Models don't have it intensifying very much because it will encounter lots of shear, which occurs when winds change direction and help tear the storm apart," Bridges said,

The other area of low pressure, which is just east of Invest 95L, has a 30 percent chance of development over the next five days.
