Afternoon, evening storms expected Friday across Central Fla.

Severe weather could include lightning, strong winds

ORLANDO, Fla. – After another afternoon and evening with storms across Central Florida Thursday, Friday's weather pattern is expected to be about the same.

"There is plenty of humid air in place, as well as leftover energy from previous storms. Along with seabreeze action, this will lead to afternoon and evening storms," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said.

The coverage of rain will be up to 60 percent Friday and most of it will be seen after 2 p.m.

The risk of severe weather will include lightning, heavy rain and strong winds greater than 60 mph.

"Some storms will linger into your evening plans," Bridges said. "Make sure you grab the umbrella before heading out the door. You may opt for a rain bonnet."

Rain chances continue to be fairly high throughout the weekend, but will be slightly lower Saturday and Sunday at 50 percent.

Afternoon highs before the rain comes Friday will reach the mid- 90s for interior counties. Temperatures will reach lows in the 90s along the coast.

"Part of the reason for the even hotter temperatures today will be a south-south westerly wind bringing in more hot air," Bridges said.

Thursday's high temperature was 91 degrees -- one degree below the average of 92 degrees for this time of year in Central Florida.

A total of 1.64 inches of rain fell Thursday in Orlando, leaving the deficit since Jan. 1 at 6.47 inches.

The record high temperature for July 21 was set at 98 degrees back in 1892.

Rain chances will be at 40 percent starting next week into the middle of the week.

Expect afternoon highs to be in the low 90s throughout the weekend.

"At this time, we are not concerned with anything developing in the tropics, but we will continue to watch vigilantly," Bridges said.
