Central Florida to see showers Sunday night

Sunshine to return by Monday afternoon

ORLANDO, Fla. – Rain is making its way into Central Florida on Sunday, especially in the evening and night.

"There was a lot of rain over south Florida, with some areas receiving around 4 inches of rain, which was good news for the Everglades," News 6's Danny Treanor said.

That area of rain and moisture is moving toward Central Florida, and combined with another area of rain to the west, a collision will occur Sunday evening and night. The collision will result in scattered showers around the area, with about 50 percent coverage.

Some areas could see a thunderstorm and some downpours.

"Generally speaking, rainfall amounts will not be over a quarter of an inch or lower," Treanor said. "This will help the drought situation, but not cure it."

Monday evening, dry air will return and start drying the area out again.

"Most of the upcoming week will be rain-void," Treanor said.

Cloudy and rainy skies will drop the overnight lows down to 68 degrees in Orlando, 66 degrees in Palm Bay and 64 degrees in Ocala.

Some morning rains are still possible, but sunshine will return by Monday afternoon, with high temperatures topping out at 86 degrees in Melbourne, 82 degrees in Orlando and 81 degrees in Daytona Beach.

Temperatures for the upcoming week could hit 92 degrees by Friday.
