Orange County officials to hold hurricane drill

Event will simulate storm hitting area

It's likely 2014 will be a near-normal or below-normal year for hurricanes, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. But even so, there are 21 hurricane names ready to go for the Atlantic hurricane season.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Hurricane season begins in less than month, and Orange County leaders are working to make sure they're ready.

On Wednesday, the county's Office of Emergency Management will conduct a hurricane drill.

Officials say it will simulate a storm hitting Central Florida, similar to that of Hurricane Donna, which hit the state in 1960.

Meanwhile, emergency managers are urging residents to get prepared for the upcoming season by trimming trees and shrubs and preparing a hurricane kit.
