Strong afternoon storms forecast for Central Florida

Orlando to see high of 93 degrees

ORLANDO, Fla. – Heat, humidity and storms: It's that time of year.

"We have an unsettled pattern across Central Florida," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said. "As we heat up, this humid, unstable atmosphere will fire up more of those afternoon storms on Thursday."

Some storms could be strong with winds greater than 50 mph, lightning and heavy rain.

The coverage of rain will be 60 percent.

"Expect the same for Friday and Saturday," Bridges said.

Rain chances will be 40 percent on Sunday and Monday.

The high temperature in Orlando will be near the average on this date, which is 92 degrees. The record high on this date is 99, set in 1914.

"High temperatures will be in the mid-90s on Friday and the lower and mid-90s through the weekend," Bridges said.

Orlando saw 0.06 inches of rain on Wednesday, putting the yearly rain deficit at 7.88 inches.

"At this time there is nothing to watch in the tropics, but we will keep looking for any opportunities for storms to develop," Bridges said.
