MIAMI – Tropical Depression No. 8 has formed over the western Atlantic Ocean, the National Hurricane Center said.
The center of the depression was about 260 miles northeast of the southeastern Bahamas and was moving toward the north-northwest at a speed near 13 mph at 11 p.m. Saturday, forecasters said. This general motion is expected to continue through Sunday.

Forecasters said a turn toward the north is forecast Sunday night, followed by a turn toward the north-northeast Monday.
Maximum sustained winds were near 35 mph with higher gusts, forecasters said. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later Saturday night or Sunday.
The NHC said there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
