DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Several waterspouts formed Friday morning off Volusia County, prompting a warning to beachgoers from the National Weather Service.
"Multiple waterspouts have been reported near Ormond Beach & Daytona Beach. Additional waterspouts are possible, be watchful if at beaches," the agency tweeted.
Bruce James posted a photo of a waterspout he spotted off Daytona Beach.
"A waterspout is a funnel cloud that forms and touches down on the water," News 6 meteorologist Candace Campos said. "It can be a major hazard to boaters and anyone on nearby beaches."

If waterspouts travel onto land, they are then classified as tornadoes.
Campos said rip currents, rough surf, and large swells will be an issue all weekend off Central Florida beaches because of Hurricane Maria.
