Weather calms in Central Florida as residents clean up from Irma

Orlando to see high of 89 degrees

ORLANDO, Fla. – Now that Irma has passed through Central Florida, weather conditions are much calmer.

"Winds have calmed down to what we would normally expect across the region -- between 5 to 10 mph," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said.

The high in Orlando on Monday was 84 degrees, nowhere near the record of 98 set in 1921.

On Tuesday, the forecast calls for a very little chance of rain and a high of 89. The average high on this date is 91.

"Rain chances will be low for the next couple days as drier air has worked in behind Irma," Bridges said.

Rain chances will be 20 percent on Wednesday, with a high of 91.

"Expect rain chances to be back to our typical pattern with sea breeze action and pop-up showers on Thursday and on Friday," Bridges said. "The coverage will be 50 percent, with highs near 90."

Thanks to Irma's drenching rain, the yearly rainfall deficit in Orlando has been wiped out. The city is now 0.17 inches above the average.

Tracking the tropics

Hurricane Jose is spinning in the Atlantic hundreds of miles northeast of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Jose has maximum sustained winds of 85 mph, putting it at a Category 1 storm. It's moving northeast at 6 mph.

"The official track has Jose curving around until the weekend, and then making a turn to the north," Bridges said. "Most models keep it away from Florida and the U.S. all together as it makes a sharp turn to the north and away."

There is another low-pressure system in the open Atlantic trying to develop, but it only has a 10 percent chance of developing within the next five days.
