Car goes airborne in fatal Ormond Beach crash on SR-A1A

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A crash in Ormond Beach on Wednesday morning sent a vehicle airborne, ending with the death of a passenger, according to the Ormond Beach Police Department.

Police said the crash happened around 7:54 a.m. along State Road A1A between Harvard Drive and Milsap Road.

During the investigation, police found that a silver Honda Accord had been driving north on the highway “at a high rate of speed.”

Eventually, the Honda struck a silver Kia sedan that was ahead of it, sending the Kia airborne and into the southbound lanes, the release shows.

As a result, the front passenger in the Kia — identified as Mary Pezza, 26 — was injured and died at the scene, police explained.

According to investigators, the Honda driver — Wyatt Dickerson, 26 — was medically cleared, though charges are pending.

While all lanes along SR-A1A were closed for the investigation, they have since been reopened.
