Cocoa neighbors gather for community Thanksgiving dinner

Larry Sinclair invites 400 people for dinner

COCOA, Fla. – Neighbors from next door to blocks away came over to Larry Sinclair's front yard to break bread.

This is truly what you call a community Thanksgiving dinner.

Sinclair said he would have done this for one person, but he actually invited 400 people for dinner. He said it's all about helping people in need.

There were 15 turkeys, three jerk BBQ turkeys, collard greens, mashed potatoes, four different types of macaroni and cheese, two hams and rolls.

"This is a big task to take on," News 6 investigative reporter Eryka Washington said.

"It is. It's my third event since I moved into the neighborhood, but it's worth it," Sinclair said.

Resident Ella Abby said Broadmoor Acres community has had its fair share of challenges.

"The crime was so bad, drugs were so bad, but now it's a lot better," Abby said.

Neighbors were dropping off food all day.

"Keisha and Connie from down the street did the collard greens and macaroni and cheese," Sinclair said.

Some folks who donated, Sinclair said he didn't even know.

"I posted on Facebook last night and a gentleman came to my house. I'd never seen him before. He brought a turkey and said he just wanted to contribute," Sinclair said.

The reviews so far?

"Awesome!" said one woman, who was eating the food.

The only requirement for Thursday was for everyone to leave with a full stomach. Sinclair said he didn't want to pack up any food for later.
