Altamonte Springs came in at No. 8 on the list, ahead of displays in Philadelphia and Tampa. The Johannessen Lights in nearby Winter Park checked in at No. 6 (see photo above).

Light Up the Holidays kicks off each year at Cranes Roost Park with family-friendly activities, vendors, performances and a ceremony where officials “flip the switch” to turn on more than 200,000 lights. Fireworks choreographed to festive songs then light up the night sky.

The city of Altamonte Springs said the recognition is a “tremendous honor.”

“Light Up the Holidays is a remarkable celebration that draws thousands of visitors to our city,” said Frank Martz, city manager of Altamonte Springs. “Our residents are always at the heart of our planning as we aim to create unforgettable experiences for families and friends year after year. The city’s continued success in this regard is a testament to our commitment to fostering a sense of community and joy.”

Not too far away, Eric Johannessen decorates his Winter Park home with 500,000 lights, creating a scene that has gone viral in years past.

Light-watchers can buy hot chocolate and popcorn and enjoy the view for free in the front yard of the home. For a $10 donation, viewers can venture into the backyard of the home for even more sights.
