1 dead in fiery crash on I-95 in Brevard County

Driver dies in crash, FHP says

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol says the driver involved in a fiery crash on Interstate 95 in Brevard County has died.

The crash occurred at around 4 p.m. involving a dump truck, according to FHP. Witnesses told troopers they saw the driver slumped over the wheel prior to crashing into the barrier wall. The truck then burst into flames, FHP says.

Both north and southbound lanes were blocked at exit 195 near State Road-519 for almost an hour, backing up traffic for miles.

No other information was immediately available.

Also in Brevard County, Highway A1A was shut down in the 2700 block because of a crash that knocked down power lines, according to Brevard County officials. One person is in critical condition and has been taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center.
