Man shot, killed through bedroom window at Orlando apartment, police say

Police ID victim as Benny Fernandez

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 33-year-old man was shot and killed early Friday while talking to someone through his bedroom window at an Orlando apartment complex, police said.

Orlando police said Benny Fernandez died in the shooting, which was reported at 3:05 a.m. at the Walden Palms Condos on Vineland Road, south of Conroy Road.

Police said officers were called to 4728 Walden Circle after gunshots were heard. A man, later identified as Fernandez, was found inside a bedroom lying on the floor.

Officers called for medical assistance, but Fernandez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

"It appears the victim was inside the apartment at his open bedroom window, possibly interacting with someone known to the victim, who was standing outside the window," Orlando police said in a statement. "During the interaction, something led to the victim being shot and killed."

An investigation is continuing, and it's not known who killed Fernandez, police said.

Neighbors said they were surprised by news of the shooting.

"It is alarming," said a woman who lives at the complex. "You know, when you come out with small children here, it's very scary."
