Study conducted by researchers in Toronto

There may be an added benefit to getting the flu vaccine.

According to Toronto researchers, the flu shot may also help lower your risk of a heart attack.

Researchers at the Women's College of Hospital and University of Toronto studied a total of 3,227 patients.

Researchers found among patients with coronary artery disease, those who received the vaccine were half as likely to develop a major heart event compared to those who did not get the vaccine.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year.
