DELTONA, Fla. – Three people were in custody on Friday after Volusia County deputies say an armed robber pointed a gun at a 2-year-old while trying to rob two women inside a vehicle outside Winn-Dixie.
The robbery attempt was reported outside the store on Howland Boulevard at around noon when deputies say two women and the child were parked in SUV when an "armed stranger" jumped into the vehicle.
Deputies said the stranger pointed a gun at the 2-year-old and demanded money and jewelry from the women.
The victims put up a fight, deputies said, and when the culprit tried to jump into a getaway truck with two other people inside, the women followed in their SUV and rammed the side, bringing the vehicle to stop not far from Deltona Middle School.
According to deputies, the suspects ran away and a sheriff's office search prompted Deltona High School to briefly go into lockdown.
Deputies identified the three people taken into custody as Aaron Voss, 26, Christopher Watson, 26, and Andrew Mielniczek, 28.
Voss was charged with robbery with a firearm, child abuse and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies said Watson and Mielniczek were charged with principal to robbery with a firearm.
The two women suffered minor injuries. The child was not injured, according to deputies.
