Cops: 3 men kick in door, pistol-whip victim during home invasion

Robbers armed with handguns, rifle during incident, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. – Police are searching for three men they say robbed two people inside an Orlando apartment while armed with handguns and a rifle early Saturday morning.

Orlando police said officers arrived at the apartment complex on Westgate Drive around 3:50 a.m. after a home invasion robbery was reported.

Police said three black males wearing masks kicked in the apartment door and robbed the two people inside. Two of the men were armed with handguns and the third had an AK-style rifle, according to police.

One of the victims was injured when they were pistol-whipped while being robbed of cash, police said. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Reiko Mochizuki lives in the building next door. She said she didn't hear about the home invasion until News 6 told her.

"Very, very scary because I have two children that I have to take care of," Mochizuki said.

The mother said she's now concerned for her family's safety.

"I have to be alert, very alert. So I'll tell my children just to be alert and I don't want to go out very late at night, just to protect our family," Mochizuki said.

Just a few miles away on Oak Ridge Road, Orange County deputies are investigating a similar crime that happened on Thursday. The sheriff's office says it was an armed robbery with four suspects and one of them pistol-whipped the victim.

Orlando police say it is too early in their investigation to know if the two cases are related.

Mochizuki says there is a lot of crime in her complex and that is why she is leaving.

"We do have security cars driving around, but nothing's really changed so I'm planning to move out," she said.

OPD says the incident remains under investigation.
