3 surfers bitten in separate shark attacks off New Smyrna Beach

Miami man suffers serious lacerations to both hands

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Three surfers were bitten Sunday in separate shark attacks off New Smyrna Beach, officials said.

All three attacks occurred just south of the New Smyrna Beach jetty.

The first incident occurred around 10:40 a.m. when a 43-year-old Longwood man was bitten on the lower leg and suffered significant lacerations. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The next one was reported around 11 a.m. when a 36-year-old Miami man was bitten on both hands. He suffered significant lacerations and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The third attack took place around 1 p.m. when a 16-year-old boy from New Smyrna was bitten on his inner thigh area. He was not taken to a hospital.

No other details were released.
