5 students hospitalized after bus air conditioner breaks in Lake County

Alabama high school students visit Orlando-area amusement parks

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Five high school students from Alabama were taken to a hospital Saturday after an air conditioner on a charter bus broke, Lake County Fire Rescue officials said.

Three buses of high school students from Alabama were visiting Orlando-area amusement parks when shortly after leaving the parks, an air conditioner broke on one of the charter buses, officials said.

Lake County Fire and Groveland Fire Department responded to a call about several unresponsive children on the bus pulled over at U.S. Highway 27 and State Road 19.

Crews arrived around 7 p.m. to find five pediatric patients needing immediate medical attention, officials said.

ALS care was rendered by both fire department units. Officials said patient care was then turned over to Lake County emergency medical services personnel.

All five people were taken to South Lake Hospital. Officials said four other people refused transport.
