Organizers say a privately run express train that would go from Miami to Orlando in three hours is just weeks away from a deal to move forward. All that's needed now is the approval of what would be its final destination at Orlando International Airport.
Barbara Prezioso travels all around Florida to visit family, but calls Ft. Lauderdale home.
"It would definitely be a big benefit. We would definitely take it without question," says Prezioso. "I have a brother who lives in The Villages. I have friend who just moved to Ocala."
She said she would skip driving on the Florida Turnpike for a train any day.
"I know it would benefit us, and I think anyone frequently traveling a distance going north would benefit from it," she said.
A new agreement between the state and All Aboard Florida would link the Orlando International Airport to a station in Miami with stops along the way in Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm.
All Aboard Florida would lease portions of the Beachline Expressway for the next 50 years and pay the state $275,000 each year for the land.
Julie Baron likes that the project generates revenue for Florida, but worries if Orlando has the transportation necessary to support people coming from South Florida.
"I think it has its perks, but I wouldn't use it on a regular basis. It is cool, but once you get to Orlando, there's not a metro system to get you around," says Baron.
Airport spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell said All Aboard Florida will be meeting with OIA officials on Friday to work on the deal.
