Arrest made in connection with fatal shooting at Glitz nightclub

10 people shot in incident that killed 2 people

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orlando police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting at an Orlando nightclub that killed two people and left multiple people injured.

Jose Jaime Brull-Lopez, 23, was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and tampering with physical evidence.

Police said the shooting was not a random act. They said there was a fight between two groups at the club that escalated into a shooting.

Members from both groups were shooting at each other, police said.

Brull-Lopez was booked into the Orange County Jail on Sunday night. OPD requested he be held without bail.

No other charges have been filed against Brull-Lopez.

While the club had extensive security measures in place, police said there was either a lapse in those security measures or staff at the club did not have sufficient training.

"The club is closed now. In the event it reopens, we will strongly urge the club owners to incorporate additional security measures," Chief John Mina said in a statement. "We would suggest the club install metal detectors that every patron has to pass through, increase the number of and retrain its private security, and also increase the number of OPD extra duty officers."

The victims killed in the shooting were identified earlier this week as Joseph Villalobos, 22, and Jonathan Avila Rojas, 33, by the medical examiner's office, which added that they both died of gunshot wounds.

In total, ten people were shot in the incident, police said. One person, who also participated in the altercation, remained hospitalized Friday in stable condition. Police said two additional people who participated in the fight were also shot. They have been treated and released.

Five of the people shot were innocent bystanders at the club who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said. They were all treated and and released from the hospital.

The shooting was the third at Glitz Ultra Lounge in the past year.
