ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An audit of the Orange County Property Appraiser's Office came back clean, which means taxpayers' dollars are not being spent illegally.
The audit started after the mayor and a commissioner called for an investigation into the use of county credit cards. They wanted to know if Property Appraiser Rick Singh was using tax dollars appropriately.
Singh announced Tuesday the comptroller's office finished the audit. It found the almost $100,000 worth of purchases from January 2013 to June 2015 are in compliance with the law. It also says his office is using the best practices for government funds.
Singh is now calling for a similar audit on the mayor, commissioners, and county government.
"In the interest of fairness and equity, I think everybody should be open to the same level of scrutiny. It should not be selective prosecution," Singh said.
The audit was called for in July 2015. Singh questioned the timing because it was an election year.
