Authorities search for escaped inmate in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Authorities in Daytona Beach are searching for an escaped inmate.

Inmate Gary W. Bullock Jr., 24, failed to return to a community release center off US-92 in Daytona Beach at approximately 3:17 p.m. Friday, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

Officials with the Florida Department of Corrections said Bullock worked maintenance at Elcaribe Resort at 2125 South Atlantic in Daytona Beach. He reported to work Friday at 8 a.m., but didn't return to the prison at 5 p.m., as he was supposed to.

He removed his GPS monitor and didn't return to the work release center, officials said.

Bullock was in the Community Release Center for inmates who are nearing release. People at the camp have no more than 19 months left on their sentences.

Bullock was jailed on charges including armed robbery, grand theft and assault.

Bullock is described by officials as a white man with black hair and brown eyes. He is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 176 pounds. He has a tattoo on his right arm with Japanese letters, records show.

No other details were immediately available.
