Big rig driver in Lake Mary I-4 crash fell asleep at wheel, Florida troopers say

Motorists were diverted off interstate at State Road 434

LAKE MARY, Fla. – A tractor-trailer overturned early Tuesday on Interstate 4 after the driver fell asleep at the wheel, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on I-4 eastbound near Lake Mary Boulevard, forcing officials to close the interstate for hours.

The FHP said Santos Andujar, 52, of Lakeland, panicked after waking up and swerved hard to the right, crashing into a guardrail.

Andujar suffered minor injuries, troopers said.  He faces careless driving charges.

Officials closed the interstate at State Road 434, but the roadway was reopened around 7 a.m.
