Body found in fisherman's crab trap in Halifax River, cops say

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona Beach police are investigating after a body was found in the Halifax River on Monday afternoon.

According to a release from police a fisherman discovered a body had been snagged in one of his crab traps between the ISB bridge and Orange Avenue bridge.

The body had no visible signs of trauma, and it appears the body had been in the water for less than 24 hours, according to police.

Police identified the body as a white male in his early 70s. The man was fully clothed with money and an ID in his pocket, but police say they are withholding his name pending next-of-kin notification.

The autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
